A Play About War, Trauma, and Healing

Burned by War. Cooled by Hope.

Ugly Lies the Bone is a powerful contemporary drama that follows Jess, a soldier returning home from Afghanistan, scarred both physically and emotionally. Set in small-town Florida, this deeply human story explores what it means to come home after war and find that everything has changed.
Jess returns to a life that feels unfamiliar. Relationships are strained. The past lingers. The future feels uncertain.
As she struggles to reconnect with her sister, navigate old relationships, and live with the lasting effects of trauma, Jess turns to an experimental virtual reality therapy designed to help her manage pain and imagine a different reality.

But healing is not an escape.
It is a confrontation.
Through this unexpected journey, Jess must face what she has lost, what remains, and what it might mean to rebuild. Ugly Lies the Bone by Lindsey Ferrentino is an unflinching exploration of the cost of war, the complexity of recovery, and the resilience of the human spirit.
