Acting
March Focus: Auditioning
Explore presence, character, and storytelling through the lens of audition work.
Our upcoming Acting Drop-In Class will focus specifically on auditioning, using presence, imagination, and physical expression to help actors make clear, compelling choices in the room. Through movement, ensemble exercises, and audition-style monologue and scene work, participants will explore how to enter an audition grounded, responsive, and creatively alive.
The emphasis is on curiosity and emotional truth rather than performance or perfection. This session is open to adults of all experience levels, from first-time auditioners to seasoned performers. No prior training is required, only a willingness to explore, take risks, and play in a supportive environment.

May Focus: Shakespeare
Speak the Verse. Free the Language.
Make It Personal.
Join us for an engaging Drop-In Shakespeare Class taught by Jeff Thomakos, Producing Artistic Director of The Inspired Acting Company and former Artistic Director of Shakespeare Royal Oak. This one-day workshop is designed to unlock the clarity, power, and accessibility of Shakespeare’s language through a practical, imaginative approach.
Shakespeare is meant to be spoken and embodied. In this session, we will explore how heightened language becomes playable and personal when approached with specificity and courage.
Open to both newcomers and experienced actors. You may bring a monologue, though it is not required. Dress for movement.

Improv
Build spontaneity and confidence through collaboration
Improv Drop-In Classes focus on spontaneity, listening, and collaboration through games and unscripted scenes. Designed for adults of all experience levels, these sessions encourage joyful risk-taking, quick thinking, and trusting your instincts. Expect laughter, connection, and a strong emphasis on ensemble over comedy or competition.

Drop-In Class FAQs
What is a Drop-In class?
Drop-In classes are single-session workshops designed for adults who want to train, play, and explore without committing to a multi-week course. Each class focuses on core acting or improv skills in a supportive, low-pressure environment.
Do I need previous experience?
No experience is required. Drop-In classes are open to beginners and experienced performers alike. Exercises are adjusted so everyone can participate fully and feel challenged at their own level.
Who are these classes for?
Drop-In classes are open to adults ages 18 and up. They are great for actors, improvisers, writers, educators, and anyone looking to build confidence, creativity, and presence.
What will we work on in class?
Each Drop-In class has a specific focus, such as improvisation, acting fundamentals, ensemble work, or creative play. You can expect a mix of warm-ups, group exercises, scene work, and guided exploration.
Who teaches the Drop-In classes?
Most Drop-In classes are taught by Jeff Thomakos, Producing Artistic Director of The Inspired Acting Company. Some classes may be taught by other members of our teaching team or by Artistic Associates. Instructor details are always listed on the individual class page.
How long is a Drop-In class?
Most Drop-In classes run between 90 minutes and two hours. The exact duration is listed on the class registration page.
What should I wear?
Please wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. No special footwear is required.
Is this class performance-based?
No. Drop-In classes are training-focused and exploratory. There is no public performance and no pressure to “get it right.” The emphasis is on process, play, and growth.
How much do Drop-In classes cost?
All Drop-In classes are pay-what-you-can. There is no fixed fee. Contributions are optional and help support our artists and educational programming.
How is this different from a workshop?
Both Drop-In classes and workshops are single-session experiences. Drop-In classes are pay-what-you-can and designed to be accessible and flexible. Workshops have a set registration fee and typically offer a deeper dive into a specific topic or technique.
Do I need to register in advance?
Advance registration is strongly encouraged, as space is limited. Some classes may fill up in advance.
What if I register but can’t attend?
If your plans change, we ask that you let us know as soon as possible. Advance notice allows us to offer your spot to someone else and helps us keep class sizes manageable.
What if I feel nervous or unsure?
That’s completely normal. Our classes are designed to be welcoming, inclusive, and supportive. You are never required to do anything you are uncomfortable with, and curiosity is always valued over perfection.
Where are classes held?
All Drop-In classes take place at The Inspired Acting Company, located in Downtown Walled Lake, with plenty of free parking nearby.
How many students are in each class?
Class sizes are capped to ensure individual attention and a strong ensemble experience.
