Full Bio

Norman L. Berman was born and bred in Detroit, Michigan.  He served as composer and director for major regional theaters in New York City including New York Shakespeare Festival, Manhattan Theater Club, Roundabout Theater, Circle Repertory Theater (Composer-in-Residence), Chelsea Theater Center, New York Theater Workshop, Brooklyn Academy of Music, and most of the major theaters across the United States.

 

He co-composed the score for the Broadway production of “Strider” for which he received the New York Drama Desk Award.  His many collaborators include Tennessee Williams, Leonard Bernstein, Betty Comden and Adolph Green, Allen Menken, Marsha Norman and many more.  He worked with the Cole Porter estate in conceiving and directing “Unsing Cole” which was premiered by Manhattan Theatre Club and has been performed across the United States. 

 

He co-conceived and co-directed “By Bernstein” for the Chelsea Theatre Center in New York.  He most recently acted as Composer-in-Residence for the Pasadena, California based theatre company “A Noise Within” where he composed over thirty scores. 

 

He is a strong advocate for the disclosure of UFOs.
